Four Speeds and a Press-and-Hold Turbo
The mixer has 4 speeds plus a turbo boost. Speed one starts slowly to avoid spatter, and the turbo engages when you hold the plus button.
The Russell Hobbs Retro Hand Mixer is a retro hand mixer with a proper slow start, best for home bakers. Rated 4.5 out of 5 across 2,053 user ratings. The main drawback: no case or bag for storing the attachments. We scored it 4.4 out of 5.
What sets this Russell Hobbs apart is how gently it starts: the first speed really is slow, so flour stays in the bowl, while a held turbo gives the 275-watt motor a push for thicker mixes. The catch is a tight button cluster that makes it easy to hit eject when you meant to switch on.
NoFussDeal rates the Russell Hobbs Retro Hand Mixer 4.4 out of 5. Last updated September 26, 2026.

The box includes a pair of traditional beaters, two dough hooks and a whisk. The attachments are metal and lock in with a distinct click.
The retro styling comes with an ergonomic soft-touch handle, and the mixer rests upright on its heel between uses.
A large eject button on top releases the attachments, and every removable part is dishwasher-safe.

I am satisfied with this mixer. #1 + is it has an actual "slow" speed. It does not fling your batter/eggs all over the kitchen. The "turbo speed" is well done because you just have to hold d… Read it on AmazonPer_Amazon · July 2, 2020 · Verified

Unpack the beaters, dough hooks and whisk and run them through the dishwasher or wash them by hand before first use.
With the mixer unplugged, hold it by the handle with the sockets facing away from you. The beater with the metal collar goes in the right-hand socket. Push each one in until it clicks.
Lower the beaters into the bowl before switching on. Expect a short pause before they turn, then let the mixer build up on speed one while the dry ingredients come together.
Raise the speed as the mix combines. For a stiff patch, hold the plus button for a second or two to engage turbo, and release it to return to your previous speed.
Switch off, lift the mixer out and stand it on its heel. Unplug it, press the eject button over the bowl or sink, and put the attachments in the dishwasher.
For most buyers, yes: we score it 4.4 out of 5. This Russell Hobbs mixer gets the basics right.
Rated 4.5 out of 5 across 2,053 user ratings, with 72% giving it five stars and 3% one star.
On/off, speed and eject buttons are close enough to press the wrong one. No case or bag for storing the attachments.
Put the beaters, dough hooks and whisk in the dishwasher after use. Wipe the body with a damp cloth.
Turbo is designed for short bursts on thick batters and cookie dough. For long spells of heavy work, a medium speed with the occasional burst is easier on any hand-mixer motor.

This Russell Hobbs mixer gets the basics right. The first speed is slow enough to keep flour in the bowl, the turbo is easy to use, and the metal attachments click in firmly and go in the dishwasher. The 275-watt motor is enough for cakes, cookies and quick breads, and the retro body is the reason many people pick it. The drawbacks are practical ones: tightly grouped buttons that take a few uses to learn, nowhere to store the loose hooks and whisk, and a weight that can tire a weak grip on longer jobs.
Buy it for the slow start, the handy turbo and the look. If you have arthritis or weak grip, or you knead large amounts of bread dough, a lighter mixer or a stand mixer will suit you better.
