Extra-Large Deep-Pocket Sandwich Plates
The sandwich plates are larger and deeper than typical toastie makers so they take thick, generously filled sandwiches, and they press each one into two sealed triangles.
The Cuisinart 2-in-1 Sandwich and Waffle Maker GRSM1WU offers excellent waffles and deep toasties in one machine, best for waffle lovers. Rated 4.6 out of 5 across 295 user ratings. The main drawback: plates can smell on first use until washed thoroughly. We scored it 4.6 out of 5.
Waffles are the easy win here; the deep-filled toasted sandwiches are just as good but ask a little more of you, because the extra-large sandwich plates want bread laid three slices across rather than two. In return you get two sets of removable, dishwasher-safe plates, a proper low-to-high heat dial and a sturdy metal build in one 1000W machine.

The second plate set makes large sweet or savoury waffles, and it is the machine's strongest suit.
Both plate sets release with a press button at the side and are labelled top and bottom so they refit correctly. The plates are non-stick and dishwasher safe.
A dial sets the temperature anywhere from low to high, and a locking handle holds the plates shut for even browning.

Remove both plate sets with the side release button and wash them thoroughly in hot soapy water, then rinse and dry. This clears the smell that can appear on the first heat-up.
Clip in the sandwich or waffle plates, using the top and bottom markings on each plate so they seat the right way round.
Close the machine, plug it in and turn the dial to low, medium or high. Let it heat up fully before adding bread or batter.
For toasties, lay bread three slices across each layer to cover the large plates. For waffles, avoid overfilling. Close with the handles, then push the clip over to lock.
The waffle plates handle savoury batters as well as sweet ones, and the sandwich plates suit other filled snacks as well as toasties.
Yes: we score it 4.6 out of 5. Cuisinart's 2-in-1 gets the important things right: the plates come out with a button and go in the dishwasher, the heat dial runs from low to high, and the metal build feels solid. Rated 4.6 out of 5 across 295 user ratings.
Sandwich plates need three slices of bread across each layer. Painted silver body scratches with metal utensils.
Wash the plates thoroughly before the first use. Remove the plates and wash them by hand or in the dishwasher after cooking.
Laying three slices across each layer fills the extra-large sandwich plates. A strip cut from another slice can patch the joins so the filling stays sealed.
Cuisinart's 2-in-1 gets the important things right: the plates come out with a button and go in the dishwasher, the heat dial runs from low to high, and the metal build feels solid. Waffles are the easy highlight. The extra-large sandwich plates make proper deep-filled toasties, but you will need to lay bread three slices across to fill them. Wash the plates well before first use and keep metal tools away from the painted body.
A sturdy, easy-to-clean two-in-one that makes very good waffles and generous toasties. Its only real quirk is the plate size for sandwiches, which is easy to work around once you know about it.
