Three Panels, Three Lengths
The tray is three separate tempered glass panels that splice together into a 16 by 12, 31.5 by 12 or 47 by 12 inch warming surface. That flexibility is the reason to choose it. A weeknight dinner needs one panel, a family meal two, and Thanksgiving all three, and the panels you are not using stay in the cupboard. The sections can be arranged to suit the table, and the long, narrow format holds a row of plates and serving dishes where everyone can reach them. The 12 inch depth is the limit to plan around. Casserole dishes and loaf-shaped platters sit well placed lengthwise, but wide round platters and roasting pans overhang the edge, and any part of a dish that is off the glass cools faster. When the meal is over, the panels come apart and stack for storage, which takes far less room than a single long tray. The full set weighs 11 pounds, so carrying all three to a potluck is manageable but not featherweight.
