The Membrane Solutions MSB5 H13 True HEPA Air Purifier is a quiet bedside purifier for one room, best for allergy sufferers in small bedrooms. Rated 4.4 out of 5 across 618 user ratings. The main drawback: durability is the main complaint. We scored it 4.3 out of 5.
Small enough for a nightstand and quiet enough to sleep beside, the MSB5 makes a real difference in one bedroom, but it runs off USB rather than mains power and its lifespan is the weak spot. It suits one room up to 215 sq ft, and some units are reported to fail within about a year.
NoFussDeal rates the Membrane Solutions MSB5 H13 True HEPA Air Purifier 4.3 out of 5 at $24.33. Last updated September 26, 2026.
A pre-filter, an H13 True HEPA layer and an activated carbon stage with the brand's OdallerPure treatment share one composite cartridge, rated for particles down to 0.3 micron.
Sleep mode is rated at 20dB, low enough for a nightstand, and the brand describes low speed as quiet as well.
Three modes, Auto, Sleep and Turbo, are selected on a touch panel that also shows air quality. In Auto the fan speed adjusts itself to what the sensor detects.
An RGB, colour-changing light turns the purifier into a soft mood lamp, and it can be turned off if you want the purifier to run in the dark.

The filter comes pre-installed. If it is still wrapped in plastic, remove the wrapping before switching on, or the purifier will move air without filtering it.
Put it on a nightstand, desk or shelf in the room you want cleaned, with space around it so the air can flow in and out freely. Keep it in rooms between 5 and 30°C and 20 to 70% humidity, as the brand specifies.
Plug the included 3.3 ft Type-C cable into a USB wall adapter (not included) rated for 5V/1A, or into a power bank if you want to use it away from an outlet.
Start in Auto so the fan responds to the air quality reading, switch to Sleep at bedtime, and use Turbo to clear the room quickly.
For most buyers, yes: we score it 4.3 out of 5. The night light is a genuine bonus rather than a gimmick.
Rated 4.4 out of 5 across 618 user ratings, with 72% giving it five stars and 6% one star.
Durability is the main complaint, with at least one unit lasting only about a year. No power adapter included and no battery, so it needs a USB plug or power bank.
Wipe dust off the outside and the air openings with a dry or barely damp cloth.
Run Turbo for a while before bedtime with the door closed, then switch to Sleep mode for quiet running through the night.

The MSB5 does what a small purifier should: it runs quietly enough to sleep beside, its H13 and carbon filter makes a noticeable difference to allergy sufferers in a single room, and Auto mode takes the guesswork out of fan speeds. The night light is a genuine bonus rather than a gimmick. Against that, it is sized for rooms up to 215 sq ft, needs its own USB power adapter, wants a new filter every three months, and durability is the most common complaint.
For one bedroom, nursery or office, the MSB5 is a quiet, effective and good-looking purifier. Skip it if you need to clean a large room, and go in knowing the filter needs replacing every three months and that some units have not lasted long.
